There doesn’t seem to be a week that goes by nowadays without some sort of big news coming out of the PGA or LIV Golf tours and sometimes, both.

This week has been no different as the future of both tours has been in the limelight once more as talks over a potential deal between LIV and the PGA continue.

As of yet, nothing is agreed and Rory McIlroy has only this week spoken of the stumbling blocks in place in terms of getting that deal done.

Of course, while those talks rumble on the background, there are more pressing matters at hand.

One of those pressing matters is the Ryder Cup in 2025 and put simply, quite who the players on each team will be able to choose from.

Indeed, just this week Justin Rose has called for the likes of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton to follow the official pathways in front of them to qualify for the team at Bethpage.

However, in the USA, things haven’t looked quite as smooth. That is, until now.

The PGA of America announced this week that LIV players will indeed be eligible for Keegan Bradley’s team, although Rex Hoggard has explained that LIV events do not count towards the points needed.

Still, the news from the PGA of America has at least caused a stir on social media and it seems, for once, it’s a decision that’s been roundly accepted.

Golf fans react as PGA of America announces Ryder Cup plans for LIV Golf players

Usually in these matters, golf fans can be divided on the social media platforms.

However, it looks like – in the main anyway – this announcement has actually united those who want Team USA to do well in 2025.

Another fan of the announcement was @YOGAGOLFDAD, who praised the PGA and then suggested LIV players also be eligible for world ranking points.

“Well done PGA!…Now when will LIV players be eligible for World Ranking Points?”

@traderdandurban called the decision common sense in their post.

“Finally some sense, now help them get golf rankings as well”

While another fan, @KeithKhorton was simply happy to see the best players from the USA considered.

“It’s the right decision. Need best players regardless of tour”

Another fan, @Xecor also praised the decision, commenting on how footballers can play for their national team regardless of the league they’re in.

“The best American players need to be eligible for all Ryder and presidents cup…have to find a way to do it regardless of the league they are playing in. If Pulisic is eligible for the USMNT and he is playing for AC Milan and not MLS , should be the same for US based LIV players”

It seems, then, that Team USA are going to benefit from this call and in the end, that’s all the American golf fans want to see.
