Two-time major champion on LIV Golf receives special late invitation to play the PGA Championship

The PGA Championship is rapidly approaching, with Quail Hollow playing host to the next major championship of 2025.

LIV Golf players may have a disadvantage at the PGA Championship, with 12 having just taken on The Masters.

Seven of the 12 LIV Golf players made the cut at Augusta National, where PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy won to complete the career grand slam.

He is now in the field for the Truist Championship, which gets underway on Thursday at Philadelphia Cricket Club.

Shortly after the five-time major champion will turn his attention to the PGA Championship, which takes place from May 15-18.

Dustin Johnson receives late PGA Championship invite

McIlroy’s compatriot Tom McKibbin has received a PGA Championship invite, with the LIV Golf player set to play at the major for the first time in his career.

And as per Flushing It, he has now been followed in receiving an invite to play at Quail Hollow Club by Dustin Johnson.

If he takes on the event, the two-time major winner will continue his run of playing every major since The Masters in 2017.

How did LIV Golf star Dustin Johnson do in the 2024 major championships?

Johnson did indeed take on The Masters just last month, where he was one of the LIV Golf players to miss the cut.

He carded rounds of 74 and 73 to miss out on the weekend, having clinched the green jacket back in 2020.

That represents one of his two major championship wins, with the American having also triumphed at the 2016 US Open.

He will enter this year’s PGA Championship sitting 28th in the LIV Golf individual standings, with its next event not until early June.

The former world number one golfer finished T34 at LIV Golf Korea, with LIV Golf DC next up in the schedule.

Johnson has come very close to PGA Championship glory in recent times, finishing second in 2019 and T2 in 2020.
