Scottie Scheffler is the number one golfer in the world right now, by quite some distance.
And Trevor Immelman has opened up on what the other top golfers in the world will be thinking about Scheffler right now.
Over the past two years, the Dallas native’s only weakness, per se, was his putting.
However, Scheffler switched to a mallet putter in 2024 and then implemented the claw grip nine months later.
Now he is a really solid putter, and his competitors must be wondering whether he will actually become an even better player than he already is.
There’s a reason why Scheffler is the most consistent golfer in the world. He just doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses.
And that must be soul destroying for his competitors. However, there is one part of Scheffler’s game that isn’t in tip-top condition, shall we say.
Trevor Immelman highlights Scottie Scheffler’s only ‘weakness’
Immelman was speaking on the 5 Clubs Podcast about Scheffler’s recent dominance in the game.
And he responded when asked what it is that actually makes the world number one golfer so good.

Immelman said: “It’s hard to single one out, the answer is all of them! That’s the thing with Scottie, he is such a complete package, he has everything. And when I say that, I’m not just talking about the physical attributes. I’m talking about the mental and emotional as well.
“It really is special. If you look at the starts and start to pick apart where there is a hole in his game. The only thing your eyes can wander to is sand play around the greens, and guess what? He’s 75th on tour, so he’s still gaining shots when he’s in a green-side bunker, and that’s really his weakness, if you want to call it that. It just goes to show how incredible he is top to bottom.
“The accuracy that he has, the power at his disposal. Is he one of the top 10 longest hitters on tour? No. But he has ample pop in the bat, he can move the ball both ways, his imagination is incredible
“He has turned the putter into a weapon over the last two seasons. If you’re another competitor out there right now, let’s say if you’re in the top 20 in the world, you’ve got to be looking at him going ‘golly, how on earth can I find a way to expose this guy’? He has all of these weapons on the course, and then the mental toughness is there as well, he has the ability to keep things so simple. There’s just no drama in his life really.
“It’s very hard to find a crack with this guy. At this young of an age, man he’s going to be around for a long time. Injuries are crazy things in sports but at this point his body seems to hold up well, he’s a handful man, he’s going to be a handful for these guys.“
As Immelman says, Scheffler’s bunker play is the only thing that he isn’t better than everyone else at.
However, it used to be that way with the putting for him, but he has turned that around and is now ranked inside the top 15 on the PGA Tour.
So don’t be surprised at all to see the 29-year-old improve his green-side bunker play.
Scottie Scheffler’s PGA Tour stats 2025
Scheffler’s stats this season are so impressive to look at.
He reigns supreme in so many categories, but one department of his game clearly isn’t as on-point as the others:
| Stat | Scheffler’s rank |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 3rd |
| Strokes gained approach | 1st |
| Strokes gained putting | 15th |
| Strokes gained scrambling | 3rd |
| Strokes gained bunker play | 75th |
| Strokes gained total | 1st |
There is no doubt that Scheffler will be aware of his bunker stats this season.
And rest assured that he will be working his tail off in order to improve upon that aspect of his game.
If he does become a top-30 bunker player on the PGA Tour, Scheffler will be even more dominant than he already has been over the past 18 months or so.
