With the LIV Golf off-season in full-swing and the tour looking to bring new players, there’s been rumours aplenty swirling about PGA Tour star, Tony Finau.

Finau was rumoured to be joining LIV just a few weeks ago as it was claimed a deal was done for the six-time winner on the PGA Tour to be the next big name to jump ship.

Since that initial report, Finau’s wife fanned the flames with an online post, while Finau himself pulled out of the Grant Thornton, citing a knee injury as the reason why.

Of course, all those things seemed to add up to the LIV reports being accurate and an announcement being imminent.

However, looking at what Finau has now done, it feels like things are not so cut and dry.

Tony Finau commits to PGA Tour event as LIV Golf rumours circulate

With the 2025 season set to get fully underway in January, the players will be working hard to get themselves set and their schedules fully sorted.

And in an interesting turn of events given the Finau situation, it appears the American has now committed to playing the AMEX in mid-January.

According to the X channel Nuclr Golf, Finau has committed to the event on January 16th, potentially pouring cold water over his LIV signing.

How Tony Finau played on the PGA Tour in 2024 as LIV Golf talk continues

Tony Finau has become one of the nearly men on the PGA Tour, having achieved so much but failing to add a major.

Six wins, Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup appearances and plenty of good grace off the course mean Finau is a popular figure on the TOUR.

However, his 2024 was not all that by his high standards and he’ll be looking to improve in 2025. He finished 2nd at the Houston Open and carded for more top fives, but once again failed to convert as others held their nerve.

Whether or not that projected improvement will be on the LIV or PGA Tour, remains to be seen.

For now, Finau simply needs to prepare to play golf and playing the American Express is a good way to show he’s invested. For now, anyway.
