Rory McIlroy is finally a Masters champion and for some of his good friends in the golfing world, the result seemed to mean just as much as the likes of Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry looked emotional among the celebratory scenes.
McIlroy is one of the most popular golfers in the world but beyond that, he is also seen as a genuinely nice human being who deserves all the success he’s had.
With Justin Rose winning praise for how he was with McIlroy after losing in the playoff, there’s been plenty of reaction to his victory.
Shane Lowry suggested McIlroy could now retire happy, while famous faces from around the world like Adam Sandler and Patrick Mahomes have also reacted.
However, in one of the more touching interviews and reactions from McIlroy’s win, good friend Tommy Fleetwood paid tribute to his Ryder Cup teammate.

Tommy Fleetwood’s reaction as Rory McIlroy wins The Masters
Tommy Fleetwood has somehow not won on the PGA Tour just yet but he’s been around for a number of Rory McIlroy’s wins and was on hand yesterday as McIlroy stepped off the course to congratulate his friend.
Fleetwood then caught up with the media and in an emotional statement, said McIlroy had got everything he deserved.
‘Very happy and proud,” Fleetwood said. “Just overall happy for everybody that’s involved.
“Rory, his family, his team, they’ve been waiting a long time for this so just very very happy for them.
“It was a very Rory McIlroy way of doing it yeah but you couldn’t have wrote better scripts really but in the end, Rory got it done and you know, just so, so happy for him.”

Will Tommy Fleetwood’s time ever come at The Masters?
It’s not just The Masters Tommy Fleetwood is chasing, it is simply a victory on the PGA Tour.
Fleetwood recorded another decent finish at Augusta National by finishing in a tie for 21st and looking at his good friend, he will surely be nothing but inspired.
However, like McIlroy with The Masters, Fleetwood needs to get the monkey off his back in terms of the PGA Tour win first.
| Driving Statistic | Rory McIlroy in 2025 |
| Driving distance | 5th |
| Driving accuracy (%) | 168th |
| Total Driving | 74th |
| SG off the tee | 1st |
| Distance from edge of fairway | 113th |
It’s now 152 attempts with no wins for the Englishman, but if he is to get that first win on the grandest stage in a major, then The Masters appears his best chance.
T21, 3rd, 33rd, T14 and T19 are his results in the last five while he also finished in a tie for 17th back in 2018.
Those results show he can play well at Augusta but ultimately, struggles to get over the line or into the mix enough.
After seeing McIlroy win and the scenes involved, this might be just what Tommy Fleetwood needs to finally hit that milestone.
