Winning on the PGA Tour or in a golf major is hard enough for a player in their prime but winning when they’re considered over the hill and at a certain age makes things even harder.
We’ve seen over the years that the odd even throws up a win for a more experienced player but in the main, it is the young up and comers or players in their prime who win out.
In 2024 for example, Scottie Scheffler won two of the majors, while Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau snaffled up the other two.
Scheffler also dominated other events, while players like Rory McIlroy, Nick Dunlap and Hideki Matsuyama all won events.
For the likes of Tiger Woods, Matt Kuchar and even an Adam Scott, winning might seem further away than ever in the modern day.
However, given what’s just happened over at LIV Golf Hong Kong, someone like Tiger Woods can take great belief in what might be to come down the road.

Why Tiger Woods can take Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia inspiration as he seeks another PGA Tour win
For Tiger Woods, who is 50 next and battling a series of really bad injuries, it might seem like winning another golf tournament is further away than ever.
However, after playing well with Charlie at the PNC and also showing glimpses of his former self in the TGL, Woods will fancy getting involved and crucially, in contention again.
For Woods, who has yet to play on the PGA Tour in 2025, the key element is getting fit.
But if he can get fit, then he need only look at the LIV Golf circuit to take inspiration from two of his olde foes on the PGA Tour.
Sergio Garcia, now 45, won the event in Hong Kong and continues to look in fine form in a Ryder Cup year.
Likewise, old friend Phil Mickelson also finished an impressive third over 54 holes and produced some of the best golf we’ve seen in years.
With Mickelson now 54 and having won the PGA Championship in 2021 against the odds as a 51-year-old, the blueprint is there for Tiger to follow if he can indeed shake those injuries off.
Indeed, Mickelson has even admitted he has eyes on winning the Masters once again, such is his own belief in his game and condition.
Why Billy Foster is convinced Tiger Woods can win again
While many might write Tiger Woods off and in fairness, they have every right to that opinion, one man who doesn’t believe he’s finished is legendary caddie, Billy Foster.
The current man on the bag for Matt Fitzpatrick knows Tiger very well.
And revealing a conversation with Woods last year, Foster admitted Woods had suggested more was to come.
“You know what, I’m going to be controversial and disagree. For the sole reason that we played with him at the US Open last year and he hit enough good golf shots, and we were on the last hole, the par three, and I was stood next to him and I said ‘You’ve still got it haven’t you? You’ve still got it in you. But there’s one thing, you’re not going to compete playing four majors and nothing else and he replied ‘I know, I know’,” Foster said.
“If he can start playing eight to ten tournaments, he might. So he believes it, so if he does, then I do. If there’s one person who’s mind is better than us, it’s him. If he can get himself fit to get walking, then he’ll win again.”
As Foster says, if Woods can get fit and play more, then his natural game is probably enough to carry him in certain events.
And with the likes of Mickelson and Garcia providing the inspiration, Woods could well be as motivated as ever to win again.
