Scottie Scheffler is undoubtedly the best golfer in the world right now and Butch Harmon has pointed out just why he’s so much like Jack Nicklaus.
As it stands, the most common comparison is with Tiger Woods and in a way, they are fair.
Scheffler himself has played down Tiger comparisons and instead, simply wants to focus on his own game.
As it stands, nobody is close to the level Scheffler consistently shows
However, for the experienced Butch Harmon, who spent so much time with Tiger Woods in his prime, the actual comparison for Scheffler is with Jack Nicklaus.

Butch Harmon says why Scottie Scheffler is more like Jack Nicklaus than Tiger Woods
Anyone who watches Scottie Scheffler will know that one of his strongest traits is to be so methodical with his game that he rarely makes errors.
When he does make the odd error, it suddenly seems huge, given they’re so rare.
However, while Tiger Woods was the very best in the world for so long and had similar traits to Scheffler in some senses, Butch Harmon believes the world number one is more like Jack Nicklaus.
“For me, what I love about Scottie Scheffler is he is in complete control of his life. In interviews he says the most important thing isn’t winning golf tournaments and if he does then that week is over,” Harmon said.
“He’s figured out a way of life that works for him. When he tees it up he’s 100% invested. When he plays casually he likes to play with his buddies and live a normal life.
“He flies under the radar a little bit, compared to other superstars because he doesn’t have the most gregarious personality. He’s a funny guy. But he’s not as charismatic as say a Rory is, or like Tiger was.
“But that’s just him, you know. Right now, he’s by far and away the best player in the world. By far the smartest player. That’s why he reminds me of Jack Nicklaus, not so much Tiger just yet. He doesn’t make any mistakes mentally. He just dumps it in the middle of the green, dumps it in again, and this week, Tommy Fleetwood took the Scheffler game plan this week.”
The record set by Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods that Scottie Scheffler equalled in 2025
You almost reach a point of running out of things to say about Scottie Scheffler at this point.
Time and again he is proving to everyone just how good he is and it’s little wonder he is getting mentioned in the same breath as such greats.
Indeed, Scheffler backed the comparisons up further by winning the BMW Championship as he put himself alongside Woods, Nicklaus and the great Arnold Palmer.
With the Ryder Cup to come and the 2026 season in sight after Christmas, if we see another year of Scheffler like we have done in the last two, then he will be right in the conversation as the best to ever do it.
