Scottie Scheffler produced the goods in abundance as he won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson with a record score but despite the positivity around the event, there’s always room for a bit of negativity in golf.
Scheffler dominated the field over four brilliant rounds in Texas to win by eight shots and equal the PGA Tour low scoring record of -31 in doing so.
Indeed, Scheffler had the chance to break the record as he missed a putt for birdie.
However, while the performance of Scheffler was outstanding and deserves credit, he was helped by the conditions in Texas that contributed to a whole host of low scores from the field.
And over on social media Tiger Woods’ former coach, Hank Haney, has made a point about the criticism LIV Golf gets at times in assessing Scheffler’s win.

Hank Haney makes point about LIV Golf courses after Scottie Scheffler’s latest win
Anyone watching the event this week will have known that a low score was possible.
With dry conditions after the weather delays and minimal to zero wind about, there was always a chance someone like Scheffler would go super low.
However, while accepting of the fact, Tiger Woods’ ex golf coach Hank Haney has took to social media to make a point about the conditions and suggested that those who criticise LIV Golf for their course selections need to take a step back.
Scottie Scheffler deserves credit despite good conditions in Texas
Haney makes a valid point here as he mentions the criticisms LIV Golf has had but at the same time, it’s worth noting just how good Scheffler was here.
To score -31 over four rounds and win by eight shots is quite something.
Indeed, runner up Erik van Rooyen was blown away by Scheffler, admitting that the level the world number one played to is just something else.
“I don’t play with the World Number 1 too often, and you’re almost flabbergasted in a way because I’d fire in — like that 5-iron on 9 comes to mind. I hit it to whatever it was, five feet, and he just makes the eagle. There’s nothing you can do. Absolute hat’s off to Scottie. He’s played fantastic golf.”
So, while Scheffler did get some help in his home state, he still had to produce and going into the PGA in a few weeks, he’s looking back to his best.
