Thriston Lawrence is statistically the best putter on the DP World Tour, with the South African gaining 1.05 shots on the greens.

The 27-year-old is 0.18 shots better off than his nearest putting strokes gained rival, Thorbjørn Oleson.

Lawrence’s performance with the flat stick has underpinned a superb 2024 season. Lawrence was in contention at The Open and suffered late playoff heartache at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Now, at the Andalucia Masters, Lawrence has revealed the secrets behind his success on the greens.

Speaking to the DP World Tour’s social media channel, Lawrence revealed that he doesn’t do putting drills despite being one of the best on tour.

“I am not very technical, to be honest. I don’t do any putting drills or anything,” Lawrence said. “I get on the green and just try and get the speed, but I feel like every putt is different because of undulation and stuff, and you tend to practice on a flat, flat putting green, and it’s never the same out there on the golf course. I’m trying to be as comfortable as I can and hit it, roll it, hole it.”

Lawrence is currently four under at the Andalucia Masters and T30. Spaniard Jorge Campillo is the pacesetter at 15 under.

Thriston Lawrence set for PGA Tour card in 2025

Lawrence currently leads the Race for Dubai standings and looks destined to earn a PGA Tour card for the 2025 season.

The South African has been consistent on the DP World Tour this season despite not claiming a victory. Lawrence has four runner-up finishes, the latest being the flagship event at Wentworth.

The 27-year-old has four DP World Tour wins, the most recent being the 2023 BMW International Open. His other victories include the South African Open, Omega European Masters, and Joburg Open.

Lawrence certainly looks like an elite-level talent who could be set to make a significant impression on the DP World Tour next year.
