Andalucia Masters predictions
The Golfing Gazette writers predict who they think will lift the Andalucia Masters trophy:
Jordan Harris: “It is nearly impossible to look past Jon Rahm this week, so gets the nod, but if the Spaniard does not win, perhaps this may be Jeff Winther’s week. The Dane finished tied for second at the Open de France last week while he led this event after three rounds last year before falling away on Sunday.”
Peter Lynch: “South African Thriston Lawrence has impressed in recent times, finishing fourth at The Open Championship and T2 at the BMW PGA Championship after his play-off drama with Rory McIlroy and Billy Horschel. I think he can use those fine results as motivation to come out on top in Andalucia, although there is a strong chance that he’ll need to battle it out with home favourite Jon Rahm.”
Sam Stone: “Of course, Jon Rahm is the man to beat this week and there’s every chance the LIV star dominates once more. However, there are a few who could compete with the two-time major winner. Englishman Matt Wallace is flying high in the Ryder Cup rankings and already has a win to his name this season. A top 15 finish at the BMW was also impressive, so I am backing Wallace to make it two wins in 2024 this week.”
James Shearman: “It seems obvious that Jon Rahm is going to win. He’s the best player in the field and arguably in the best form. But I’m predicting that fellow Spaniard and LIV Golf player Adrian Otaegui is going to be victorious this week. He won the event in 2022 – albeit on a different course – and needs significant world ranking points to qualify for next season’s majors so there is extra motivation.”
