The US Open gets underway in less than two weeks’ time but the field is going to be missing one of golf’s great characters.
The third major of the year takes place at Pinehurst and is all set to be another firecracker of a tournament.
There are a host of huge names who will fancy their chances of winning as well.
The likes of Rory McIlroy will be desperate to win, while world number one Scottie Scheffler will be eager to put a strange May behind him and win.

Others, like Xander Schauffele, Brooks Koepka and more will also be looking to make their mark and win the US.
However, there is one man who won’t be in the field after withdrawing, and that’s three-time major winner, Padraig Harrington.

The Irishman needed to qualify for the tournament and there are a number of spots still available in the field for Pinehurst.
However, taking to X (formerly Twitter), Harrington replied to a tweet from a fan account to confirm he’s now actually taken himself out of the running by withdrawing.

The 52-year-old is not only one of golf’s great players and has the resume to back it up but he’s also developed into one of the top characters as well.
His now famous Paddy’s Tips over on social media have sent his popularity sky-rocketing and there’s something oh so likeable about the Irishman.
Of course, he might have failed to qualify in the end anyway.
But it’s always sad to see some of the greats not taking part and the field will be worse off without Harrington involved.
