Padraig Harrington has revealed his “perfect” solution for the PGA Tour and LIV Golf with negotiations between the two parties at a stand off.

It’s believed Jay Monahan and PGA Tour chiefs remain in talks with the PIF over a potential merger, which would allow LIV rebels to once again compete in Tour events.

Initially, the end of 2023 was the target deadline, but nearly five months later, no resolution is in sight.

Harrington has previously been quite vocal in his view that the PGA Tour needs the likes of Patrick Reed back consistently on American soil.

And now, the Irishman has revealed his ideal resolution.

Speaking to NBC ahead of the Senior PGA Championship, Harrington once again reaffirmed his view that the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed are missed.

He explained: “I got to say, I didn’t realize when it came to LIV, you know, some of the guys left, and he said, you know, didn’t bother me. A lot of my friends went to LIV as well, but some of the guys left. But I realized last week, God, we missed Bryson.

“Like, Bryson was box office last week, and really, really helped that tournament, helped push Xanders win on it. It was fantastic. Interesting, exciting watching, you know? So, yeah, we do miss. We miss those guys, I think, you know, as I said before, it’s hard to believe we miss Patrick Reed.”

On his perfect solution, Harrington added: “I think ultimately, for me, if you’re looking for the perfect solution, I would have at least the two tours and some crossover, like we did back in the day. Everybody’s got a chip on their shoulder, like we did back in the day, a few invites, something like that.”

The PGA Tour needs to make a decision, and fast

The PGA Championship at Valhalla saw Bryson DeChambeau capture the imagination of the watching patrons and fans around the world.

DeChambeau has done a brilliant job of shifting public opinion on himself, and, as was apparent in Louisville, he is an extremely popular figure.

Jay Monahan needs characters like DeChambeau back on the PGA Tour to turn what appears to be a sinking ship around.

With the likes of Rory McIlroy – a once staunch LIV advocate – coming around to the idea of breakaway players returning, it feels like a decision is getting closer.

Ultimately, Harrington is right; DeChambeau and Reed being back on the PGA Tour would only be a good thing for the future of the game.
