The second round of the 2024 Olympics at Le Golf National is well underway as the world’s elite golfers compete for an elusive podium spot.
Xander Schauffele has been one of Friday’s red-hot players and is currently in contention along with Hideki Matsuyama and Tommy Fleetwood.
LIV Golf superstar Jon Rahm is also pushing near the top of the leaderboard as he looks to continue his good form after capturing his maiden breakaway league title at JCB last week.
The top of the leaderboard is always going to garner attention, but a few surprise names have also gathered near the bottom of the standings.
Here, The Golfing Gazette highlights three players who have struggled at the Le Golf National.

Viktor Hovland struggles at Le Golf National
Viktor Hovland stunned fans with his wayward tee shot on the first and things haven’t improved for the 2023 FedEx Cup winner.
The Norwegian is currently tied for 55th and four over for the day. His first two rounds in Paris sum up his up-and-down season nicely.
Hovland has never quite looked comfortable in 2024, and he will be desperate for the off-season to come around so he can truly work out what has gone wrong.
Matthieu Pavon disappoints the home fans
Frenchman Matthieu Pavon appeared to be a good outside shot for a medal this week. Playing in his home country and being backed by partisan crowds could have suited the 31-year-old.
But Pavon currently sits four over for the tournament and alongside Hovland at the foot of the table. It hasn’t been a week to remember thus far.
Hopefully, Pavon can recreate some of his US Open brilliance over the weekend at Le Golf National
Shane Lowry is well off the pace
With several players going low at the top of the leaderboard, Shane Lowry has been left a long way back.
The Irishman is currently at level par and has not been able to match his excellent Open Championship performance.
On a course that felt well-suited, the 37-year-old has failed to capitalise on birdie opportunities and, as a result, won’t be battling for a medal.
