The second round of the 2024 Paris Olympic golf event is underway at Le Golf National, and there have been some fast starters in the French capital.
Hideki Matsuyama leads the way after carding a sublime eight under 63 on Thursday. 2024 Open Championship winner Xander Schauffele also impressed, carding a round of six under.
World number one Scottie Scheffler finished at four under after his first 18. After his round, Scheffler admitted that the atmosphere in Paris had taken him by surprise.
It was a similar story for Jason Day, who was left stunned by the reception he received on Le Golf National’s first tee.
Now, with round two underway, The Golfing Gazette examines three players who have started fast.

Jon Rahm makes Friday move at Le Golf National
Fresh off his first LIV Golf win last week, Jon Rahm’s red-hot form shows no sign of letting up. After carding a 67 on day one, Rahm has exploded out of the blocks in round two, sitting at three under for the day through seven holes and just one back of the lead.
The Spaniard made three birdies in a row on the second, third and fourth and looks on course to record a bogey-free front nine at Le Golf National.
Rahm knew he had to start fast, and that’s precisely what the LIV Golf star has done.
Schauffele shows no sign of letting up
Schauffele has also started well on Friday. After dropping a shot on the par-three second, the two-time major winner made three birdies in a row to tie for the lead.
The American has nearly completed his front nine and will no doubt be content with where he currently sits.
Given his current form and position atop the leaderboard, the rest of the field will be concerned with Schauffele’s impressive start to round two.
Thomas Detry starts fastest on day two at Le Golf National
Belgian Thomas Detry impressed at the PGA Championship and US Open, and the 31-year-old began fastest on day two.
Detry made birdies on one and three before picking up three more shots before the turn. Now, on the back nine, the European star is one to watch closely as his round progresses.
Given his 2024 form to date, the 31-year-old is a good outside pick to make the podium on Sunday.
