The FedEx Cup playoffs are now in full swing, and there are some high-profile names in need of big performances at this week’s BMW Championship in Colorado.

Scottie Scheffler, of course, leads the way heading into the second playoff event at Castle Pines Golf Club. The American is closely followed by Xander Schauffele, who sits 1500 points back of the world number one.

Hideki Matsuyama was the big winner at the St Jude Championship. The Japanese star jumped up to third in the standings and could be a huge threat when the Tour Championship gets underway at East Lake.

However, some notable names at the other end of the FedEx Cup top 50 could see their seasons end prematurely this week.

The top 30 advance to the Tour Championship, meaning those ranked 31st to 50th have work to do. Here, The Golfing Gazette takes a look at three big names who could miss out.

Tommy Fleetwood

Tommy Fleetwood is still searching for his first PGA Tour win and would certainly welcome it coming this week in Colorado.

The Englishman currently sits in 31st and is arguably the best-placed player to break his way into the top 30. Fleetwood will be looking to recreate his recent Olympic performance at Le Golf National, where he captured the silver medal.

During last week’s St Jude Championship, Fleetwood finished tied for 22nd on six under. Unfortunately, an improvement will have to be made this week in Colorado.

Max Homa

World number 19 Max Homa is another high-profile name looking to make it to the Tour Championship.

But the six-time PGA Tour winner will have to produce something pretty special this week. Homa currently sits 43rd in the FedEx Cup standings and needs several pieces to fall into place if he’s to make it to East Lake.

If the American’s season is cut short, he will rue what has been a sub-par second half of 2024.

Matt Fitzpatrick

2022 US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick sits 36th in the standings and will be looking to improve on his T18 finish at TPC Southwind.

Since the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst, the Englishman has struggled for form and ended up withdrawing from the Olympic golf event at Le Golf National.

The St Jude Championship was his first top-30 finish since the Memorial Tournament, and Fitzpatrick will be hoping to use last week’s outing as a springboard at the Jack Nicklaus-designed course in Colorado.
