Series three of Netflix’s Full Swing is finally out, and several big-name golfers are involved.

Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Shane Lowry, and Justin Rose are just a few of the players set to feature in the new season.

However, one big name is absent from the fly-on-the-wall docuseries, which showcases a behind-the-scenes look at the PGA Tour and golf’s four major championships.

Two-time major winner Xander Schauffele, who won the PGA Championship at Valhalla and the Open Championship at Royal Troon, was not involved.

Given the season Schauffele had, there’s no doubt the producers tried to interview the 31-year-old during his remarkable 2024 season.

Xander Schauffele refuses Netflix Full Swing appearance

During the PGA Championship at Valhalla, just a handful of Schauffele’s shots were shown despite him eventually lifting the Wanamaker Trophy.

In a recent podcast episode with Peter Finch, journalist Dan Rapaport has explained why Schauffele is against Netflix’s involvement with the PGA Tour.

“Xander has been the most anti-Full Swing of any of the players,” Rapaport said.

“Cameras were allowed into the team room for Europe at the Ryder Cup; they weren’t in the United States. Stefan Schauffele, Xander’s dad, was on record saying it was an image rights conversation. It’s almost become a running joke when the Netflix cameras are in his face; he will look at them and be like, ‘Get the **** out of here’.

“In like a jovial manner. How it works is the Netflix cameras have the same rights as PGA Tour cameras on-site; if Xander’s playing, they can shoot whatever they want, and Xander has no right to say you can’t put that in the show. But if they sit for an interview, that is a different conversation.”

PGA Tour and LIV players who refused Full Swing

It’s not just Schauffele who is sitting out the new series. LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau also declined the chance to speak to Netflix despite featuring heavily in episode three.

The third episode of the series documents the US Open at Pinehurst No.2, an event which DeChambeau famously won at Rory McIlroy’s expense.

Full Swing producer Chadd Mumm spoke to Mirror U.S. Sports about DeChambeau declining the offer. “So Bryson unfortunately declined to officially participate in the show,” he said.

“He never sat down for an interview despite our best efforts. I think we did a really good effort of telling his story without his direct point of view.”

He added: “There is so much media. He is great in press conferences, he produces so much content on YouTube. It is still a really good portrayal of Bryson. In particular, as he matured, and redefined himself in front of the public. We do a really good job of capturing that. Would I rather he sat down for an interview?

“Absolutely, but he said no. We did the best we could with what we got. I still think it’s probably the deepest portrait of Bryson as both a player and figure that anyone has ever seen before.”
