The best golfers on the planet aren’t always the most high-profile, with one excellent PGA Tour player still going under the radar.

Of course, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele – the top three in the Official World Golf Ranking – are up there with the biggest names in the sport.

However, other top 10 players in the OWGR still don’t get mentioned in conversations they deserve to be part of.

Max Homa recently named the PGA Tour player he believes is better than people realize.

Max Homa names the PGA Tour’s ‘most underrated’ player

Homa has unfortunately dropped to 76th in the OWGR after an underwhelming past 12 months. His latest PGA Tour win was at the Farmers Insurance Open in January 2023.

But he did finish tied third at last year’s Masters, so he can be optimistic ahead of his trip to Augusta National in two weeks.

In a recent interview, he spoke about all things golf, from his career to other players, and one answer stood out in particular.

When asked who the “most underrated” player on the PGA Tour is, Homa responded: “That’s a hard question. Russell Henley, I think.”

Henley won the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier this season and is now up to seventh in the OWGR, yet Homa is correct that he’s not rated highly enough.

Russell Henley and Max Homa’s 2025 Ryder Cup chances

The latest United States Ryder Cup standings have Henley firmly within the automatic qualification places (top six).

His spot on Keegan Bradley’s squad is far from locked up, but he’s put himself in an excellent position where he probably only needs a few more top-10 finishes in the upcoming months.

Homa, on the other hand, is very much an afterthought at the moment when it comes to the Ryder Cup at Bethpage.

Unless he wins a major championship or one of the remaining signature PGA Tour events, it seems highly unlikely that he will take part, even as a captain’s pick.

That would come as a real disappointment to Homa, who had this to say about how much he enjoys team competitions: “The camaraderie is amazing, getting to sit around, you get to pick people’s brains, but you also get to goof off.

“I just think you create this very deep bond with everybody on the team that just doesn’t go away week to week. It’s just like I have new friends, they’re much more meaningful.

“Me and Brian Harman were never super close, and since we’ve played the Ryder Cup together, he’s one of my favourite people out here. So it’s pretty cool.”
