Despite the dominance shown by the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Xander Schauffele, some of golf’s greatest-ever swings pre-date the modern-day champions.
Jack Nicklaus, Fred Couples, Lee Trevino, Payne Stewart, Ernie Els, and Sam Snead exemplify the pinnacle of golfing technique.
Another player who made the game look incredibly easy was Vijay Singh. The three-time major winner’s smooth swing has, quite literally, withstood the test of time and the Fijian is still regularly challenging on the Champions Tour.
As one of golf’s all-time greats, Singh’s views are valued and back in 2017, the now 61-year-old disclosed who he believes has the best swing of all time.
Vijay Singh’s ‘favourite’ swing of all time

In an interview with the National Club Golfer, Singh claimed four-time US Open winner Ben Hogan had his favourite swing.
Hogan won nine major championship titles from 1946 to 1953 and is widely regarded as one of golf’s best ever. Along with Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Gary Player and Gene Sarazen, Hogan is one of a select group that has completed a career grand slam. LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau has spoken of his admiration for Hogan and previously wore a flat cap on the PGA Tour in honour of his idol.
Singh also claimed that Tiger Woods was the best player he’s ever played with and that he would still be able to beat Ernie Els in a head-to-head match.
Who has the best swing in golf right now?
Hogan’s swing was a classic example of golfing technique. The immense lag, compact motion, and use of fundamentals make for incredible accuracy and power.
Currently, Scottie Scheffler’s unconventional technique is dominating the game, which is quite different from Hogan’s nearly perfect swing.
There are, however, some textbook swings still present within the professional game. Tiger Woods’ former coach Hank Haney says Nelly Korda has the finest swing in golf and there are those who have heaped praise on Rory McIlroy over the years.
Aussie Adam Scott is another whose swing has been revered. The 44-year-old’s rhythm is something amateur players should be looking to emulate.
