If you’re getting the better of Scottie Scheffler on the PGA Tour right now in any statistical category then it’s a sure-fire way to know you’re doing something right.

Scheffler’s dominance in 2025 has once again been obvious and over the last few months, the world number one has kicked into overdrive.

Scheffler’s two major wins, his latest coming at The Open last weekend, are further evidence that the Texas native is very much playing golf on a level others aren’t right now.

Rory McIlroy is among those to laud Scheffler’s brilliance recently and it goes without saying that he is the man to beat right now.

However, just when it seems like Scottie is unbeatable, there is a sign of hope for everyone in the form of new-kid on the block, Chris Gotterup.

How Chris Gotterup is outdoing Scottie Scheffler on the PGA Tour

As we all know in golf, a lot of metrics are based on strokes gained against the field.

Usually, the best players in the world are sitting pretty near the top of these lists and it’s little surprise we see Scheffler up there over the past few events.

However, 26-year-old Chris Gotterup seems to be bucking the trend a bit and is actually outdoing Scheffler when it comes to total strokes gained in the last few events.

In a stat shared by Rick Gehman on X, Gotterup is actually the better player over the last nine rounds when it comes to strokes gained.

It has been some past few weeks for Gotterup, who has gone from forgotten PGA Tour player to a man in contention in the big events.

Indeed, Gotterup won The Scottish Open ahead of a packed field and then managed a T3 finish at The Open last week to back up his links credentials.

Chris Gotterup’s PGA Tour career in numbers

Chris Gotterup might well be in Ryder Cup contention now just months away from the tournament beginning.

Of all the players from the US on the PGA Tour right now, Gotterup is showing the sort of form that could very much make him a wildcard pick for Keegan Bradley.

Whether or not that becomes a reality, remains to be seen but in terms of his PGA Tour career, Gotterup is no stranger to winning.

Technically, he has two wins on the PGA Tour after nabbing the Scottish Open a few weeks back, albeit some may regard his win at the Myrtle Beach Classic in 2024 as a bit of an anomaly.

Still, in 63 events, Gotterup has made the cut 37 times, with five top ten finishes and four top fives to his name along the way.

In terms of dollars, he’s also pretty set for life now, with his Scottish Open win boosting his piggy bank to north of $5m.
