The first season of the TGL has been entirely forgetful for Rory McIlroy and Boston Common Golf.
On Monday evening, McIlroy‘s team failed to advance to the playoffs. Having lost every game, Boston Common will end the first season at the bottom of the standings.
Up against Xander Schauffele‘s New York Golf Club, Boston Common raced into a 3-1 lead in the singles before NYGC hit back with a well-timed Hammer on the fifth hole.
After New York won holes six and eight, Boston Common won the ninth with a Hammer to end the triples just one point down.
McIlroy and Keegan Bradley then won the first two singles points before Schauffele beat Adam Scott twice whilst using two expertly placed Hammers.
The 10-6 victory secured New York GC’s spot in the playoffs, where they will face table-topping Los Angeles Golf Club.

Whilst putting for a halve on the first hole, McIlroy pulled his five-foot attempt to hand New York an early advantage.
And NYGC were quick to throw a jibe in the Northern Irishman’s direction.
“Didn’t know we were playing Pinehurst,” the team wrote on their official X account.
The post comes after McIlroy missed a short putt at the 2024 US Open to extend his winless major championship run. Clearly distraught, McIlroy immediately left Pinehurst after the conclusion of his final round.
Golf fans on X have since reacted to the brutal dig from New York GC.
One fan wrote: “That’s vicious!”
Another said: “This is outrageous.”
“Disgraceful post from a team looking for followership,” this X account added. “I was tossing up between Boston and NYC, as I lived in New York for two years but love Adam Scott as an Aussie. Thanks for making up my mind. I officially hate NYGC!”
“Ahh man, that’s not nice,” another said.

Boston Common Golf’s 2025 TGL record
McIlroy will probably be quietly relieved that the first season of the TGL is now over for Boston Common Golf.
The team’s season started on January 27 against Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links GC, and the 4-3 overtime defeat somewhat set the tone for what followed.
McIlroy’s team then lost 6-2 to Los Angeles GC before losing by one point to The Bay Golf Club. Atlanta Drive then beat Boston Common on February 24.
Clearly, massive improvement is needed for when season two of the TGL starts in January 2026.
