TGL season one is now reaching its conclusion, with the innovative golf league certain to make changes for future editions.

Rick Shiels thinks the players aren’t committed to TGL, which involves some of the biggest stars on the PGA Tour.

Some players meanwhile have been sharing their verdicts, with Tommy Fleetwood wanting best-of-three playoffs after his Los Angeles Golf Club side fell at that stage this time around.

Florida’s SoFi Center has played host to the innovative tournament, which is the brainchild of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Ironically both stars failed to make the TGL playoff stages, with Jupiter Links GC and Boston Common Golf finishing fifth and sixth in the table respectively.

Ryan Lavner tells TGL executives they’ve messed up with scheduling

Golf Channel’s Ryan Lavner has now added to the conversation, suggesting a TGL schedule change that he thinks is more favourable with regards to the PGA Tour.

“I think TGL executives need to look at the schedule and how this has played out,” he said on the Golf Channel Podcast with Rex & Lav.

“To me it feels like such a letdown. The Players Championship, the PGA Tour’s flagship event. All these players are preparing and trying to get ready for the major championships, which are just around the corner as well.

“Having this post-Players Championship, to me just feels like a big miss. If I were TGL I would shift the schedule about one month earlier.

“There is nothing going on on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You could start the season then. I would try and end with the finale of the TGL finals the week of the Cognizant Classic.

“The players are already there for Palm Beach. It just makes sense, before the schedule gets too PGA Tour heavy and players’ focus is divided elsewhere, not inundating their schedules at a crucial time of year for PGA Tour-centric products.”

Fans witness new side of PGA Tour stars in TGL

TGL certainly wasn’t going to get everything right in its maiden season, while it still won’t be able to please everyone even if major changes were made for next time out.

Just like the PGA Tour, it seems that there will always be an issue here or an issue there that could be improved upon or slightly altered, with striking the right balance certainly easier said than done.

But from the outside looking in, it did seem that the star names involved in TGL have really enjoyed it, with the competition bringing out a side to them that fans had never seen before.

Moreover, even many players will not have seen that side of the likes of Woods, who remained upbeat throughout despite his side’s struggles.

Incidentally, TGL has shown it isn’t scared to make changes during the tournament given the Hammer update, with such a trial-and-error method perhaps set to continue in season two.
