Tommy Fleetwood has bowed out of TGL with his Los Angeles Golf Club teammates, but the Englishman really enjoyed the inaugural season.

Tiger Woods failed to make the TGL playoffs with Jupiter Links GC, with Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf also eliminated at the first stage.

Dan Rapaport thinks it ‘might be it’ for Woods after his achilles tendon surgery, with the latter having been limited to TGL this season.

Woods has yet to make a PGA Tour appearance in 2025, with the icon having made just five starts in 2024.

His TGL venture with McIlroy is now in the playoff stages, with New York Golf Club defeating Los Angeles to advance to the Finals Series.

Tommy Fleetwood wanted TGL playoff best of three or top seed bye

New York now faces the winner of The Bay Golf Club and Atlanta Drive Golf Club, having overcome top-ranked Los Angeles 6-4.

And asked in his post-match press conference if there are any changes he would like to see in the next TGL season, Fleetwood replied: “I mean, we’ll see, won’t we?

“I think everybody has enjoyed the format very much, and I think we’ve loved that. I would love it if the playoffs was the best of three or the first seed gets a bye. That would have been great.”

Tommy Fleetwood predicts what changes TGL will make for season two

Los Angeles can perhaps feel hard done by regarding the seeding, having finished top of the pile in the regular standings.

Fleetwood’s side won four of their five matches to finish in first place, having been the only team to secure nine points.

The Bay Golf Club and Atlanta Drive GC finished second and third respectively, both on eight points, with New York completing the top four on five points.

And despite a narrow playoff exit, Fleetwood has really enjoyed the experience, and is excited for what is to come in TGL.

Continuing his verdict, he said: “Look, I think the guys have been good with the changes when necessary, and I’m sure it will continue to evolve.

“I’m sure there’s different things that they can do with the conditions. I’m sure there will be new holes next time probably.

“But overall I think everybody has really enjoyed the format. It’s just been so different for us and so new, but everybody has got really behind it.

“We’ve had a great group of guys and a great team, not just us but everybody around LA Golf, and we’ve enjoyed it so much.

“I guess we have to wait now until we get our chance again and we’ll see what changes there are in the future, but this one has been great.”

Tommy Fleetwood loved ‘really great’ TGL experience

Fleetwood has now added a personal message following his first experience of the hybrid competition solely involving PGA Tour players, writing on X: “Genuinely gutted to not get through to the finals with Los Angeles Golf Club but congrats to New York and good luck to the teams that are left…

“TGL was an unknown to us all and I can honestly say from my point of view it’s been a really great experience, playing with and for a very supportive team, and bonding with our guys.”

And thanking Los Angeles Golf Club and TGL, he added: “I look forward to next season and doing better!  Now back to the day job, see you at work!”
