Carlos Alcaraz continues his quest for further success at the US Open this month, but he’s also keeping one eye on his golf game.
Tennis star Alcaraz has stormed into the semifinals of the US Open, which is now into its latter stages in New York.
Aged just 22, he’s already won five Grand Slam titles, and has been able to reach number one in the world rankings.
His focus now turns to a reunion with 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, but Alcaraz isn’t letting his fine run get in the way of his other sporting love.
The Spaniard met Rory McIlroy in the early stages of the US Open, while his fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia followed the Northern Irishman by taking in one of Alcaraz’s matches.

Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz reveals what his golf handicap is
The tennis star has now shared insight into his current level on the course, saying in his latest press conference: “I started to play at the beginning of 2020. I just love playing.
“I used to go to hit some balls in the driving range when I was really, really young. I liked it, but since 2020, I just started to play more, to go on the course, to play some holes. I just fell in love with golf.

“I started to play more and more. I saw myself improving, so it engaged me even more to the golf, and it has me.
“I just feel really peaceful when I go out and play some golf on the golf course. Tomorrow Sergio is here, so we are going to play some golf. I will try to learn from them.
“My handicap right now is 14. It’s getting down, but it takes time. I mean, for me it’s a privilege to have time to play some golf, to be honest.”
Will Carlos Alcaraz follow tennis legends in taking up golf after retiring?
While Alcaraz isn’t there just yet, non-golfers turning to golf following their retirement is a very common scenario.
And that is particularly true of tennis players, with Scottish legend Andy Murray aiming to become a scratch golfer.
Spanish icon Rafael Nadal shot eight-over-par at Augusta National after taking on the famous course, while golf fans love Roger Federer’s golf swing.
Alcaraz looks certain to follow those star names once he hangs up his racket, but now his current focus remains on winning a second US Open title.
Garcia incidentally had been scheduled to take on the Irish Open this week, but withdrew after missing out on a place at the Ryder Cup.
New York is once again the venue for another iconic sporting event, with Long Island’s Bethpage Black hosting the Ryder Cup later this month.
