Team USA star Patrick Cantlay has shared his thoughts on Royal Montreal Golf Club ahead of the Presidents Cup, which starts on Thursday.

Cantlay automatically qualified for the 12-man United States Team and is looking to continue his impressive match-play record.

Cantlay is predicted to partner Xander Schauffele after the duo paired together three times at Quail Hollow in 2022.

Now, ahead of the 2024 edition, Cantlay has shared a positive verdict on the Quebec venue after playing practice rounds this week.

Speaking during his press conference on Tuesday, Cantlay admitted the course looks in good shape.

“Yeah, Saturday night. It’s been great. Played a couple of practice rounds. The golf course seems like it’s in good shape. Hopefully, we can dodge some of this weather,” Cantlay said.

The American also alluded to the greens, which reminded him of courses he’d played in California.

Cantlay continued: “I think it sets up great. It’s very much a northeast old-school golf course, but with the poa annua greens and most of them being back to front, it reminds me of some of the golf courses I grew up playing in southern California. I love the golf course. I think it’s going to be a good test.”

Patrick Cantlay looking to continue excellent Team USA record

Cantlay is one of the more experienced heads within the United States Team this week and will be looking to continue his impressive Presidents Cup record.

The American, along with Schauffele, has the joint-most points of the current 12-man roster. Cantlay has featured in two previous Presidents Cups, winning six points from nine matches.

When it comes to the Ryder Cup, the 32-year-old also has a positive record. Cantlay has amassed five-and-a-half points from his two outings, which included two points in Rome 12 months ago.

If the USA are successful in Montreal this weekend, the eight-time PGA Tour winner will undoubtedly play a vital role.
