Team USA might have got over the line and won the Presidents Cup but it’s safe to say that Tony Finau didn’t really impress during the week.

Finau did actually managed to win a couple of his matches alongside Xander Schauffele but when it came to the singles, he was soundly beaten by Corey Conners.

The popular American has become one of the nearly men in golf and has yet to win a major or really threaten, with his best finish being a third place at this year’s US Open.

Of course, Finau will say he contribute to the US winning in Montreal this week and on paper, that is correct.

However, it could have been so much better for Finau had he been able to putt and speaking about that very subject, Smylie Kaufman has pointed out just how poor Finau was on the greens.

Tony Finau’s ‘very poor’ putting exposed at the Presidents Cup

Speaking on the latest episode of The Smylie Show, Kaufman got onto the subject of the American team and in particular, Finau.

And it’s safe to say that he wasn’t impressed with Finau’s game around the greens.

“Tony Finau was just so disappointing on the greens. He was just shockingly bad at times and that’s exactly what we kind of expected coming into the week,” Kaufman said.

“He’s going to give you some ball striking, who knows with the putter. We got the bad Tony Finau putter. He was the worst putter, losing 4.53 strokes to the field average, which is very poor.”

Finau one of Team USA who might not make the Ryder Cup

Keegan Bradley spoke after the win of wanting to see as many as the 12 involved this week in the Ryder Cup team for next year.

However, the full 12 will not be exactly the same and you have to say Tony Finau is one of the players who might end up missing out.

Sure, a big year on the PGA Tour in 2025 could change that but if he putts as he did in Canada this week, then he’ll be well off the pace.

Put simply, Finau needs a big year to impress. He’s currently down in 10th place anyway in terms of qualification and given many above him are near shoo-ins for Bethpage, he has work to do.
