Steph Curry explains how he first got into golf and here’s what his handicap currently is

Steph Curry has turned the world of basketball upside down, but the American is also making strides in golf.

The Golden State Warriors icon is well-known for his talent on the court, but is also more than capable on the course.

But along with playing the game, Curry has taken major strides to increase access to underrepresented communities.

The basketball ace founded the Underrated Golf Tour, which aims to provide golf access and opportunities for Black and Hispanic communities.

His work withing the sport led to the 2023 Ambassador of Golf award going his way, with the honour aimed at someone who “fosters the ideals of the game and whose concern for others extends beyond the golf course.”

His Underrated Golf European Tour – an expansion of the US version – takes place this week at Walton Heath Golf Course in Surrey.

And he has now explained his origins in the sport, with Curry currently boasting a +1.3 handicap [official PGA Tour website].

“I saw my dad get a set of clubs,” Curry told BBC Sport. “He started going out to play and I said ‘hey let me tag along.’ I used to just drive the golf cart.

“He gave me a little cut down putter that he used to play with, and then from there I just fell in love with it.”

Curry has registered points from all areas of the basketball court, with the Golden State Warriors star taking his long-distance skills to another level last summer.

He fired in a stunning hole in one on number seven at the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, before running the length of the hole to celebrate.

Curry will be focusing on his basketball for the time being, but he may just have one eye on his other sporting love as the US Open rapidly approaches.

Pinehurst plays host to the famous event, with five past US Open champions realistically in with a chance of a second win.

The Golfing Gazette has also identified three Masters winners who’ve never won the US Open but can definitely win it at Pinehurst.
