The US Open gets underway in just over two weeks’ time and there’ll be a host of big names looking to win the tournament.

Golf’s third major of the year in 2024 takes us to Pinehurst, where the No.2 course will play host to another tense week of golf.

With Scottie Scheffler having won the Masters and Xander Schauffele winning the PGA Championship last week, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will come out on top at Pinehurst.

There are so many top players around the world now that multiple players will fancy winning it.

Of course, experience counts and there are a number heading into the 2024 edition with a US Open win under their belt already.

With that in mind, we’ve narrowed down FIVE golfers who’ve won the US Open once before who can realistically add a second at Pinehurst.

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy’s run of not winning a major is now into its 10th year and there is increasing frustration around his performances in the big tournaments.

Big wins at The Zurich and then at Quail Hollow had many people believing McIlroy would be the one to beat at Valhalla in the PGA.

But it wasn’t to be and McIlroy once again fell away as the likes of Schauffele and DeChambeau pulled clear.

McIlroy last won the US Open in 2011 and he’ll be desperate to add another.

Bryson DeChambeau

Just when it looked like we might never see Bryson competing for the biggest titles again, he roared back into contention at Valhalla and missed out on forcing a playoff by just a single shot.

DeChambeau looked very much back to his very best at the PGA and it wasn’t just a case of his driving being immaculate either.

The American got up and down on nearly every occasion and if he brings the same form to Pinehurst, then he’s more than capable of adding to his win at Winged Foot in 2020.

Jordan Spieth

Spieth is just a single major away from completing the grand slam and simply needs to win the PGA Championship to land all four.

Frustratingly for Spieth, he’s been off his game in the majors ever since winning his last one in 2017.

However, Spieth has won the US Open before and there are minor signs in his game that it’s trending in the right sort of direction.

On any given day, the 30-year-old can produce and if he can get anywhere near the form he showed between 2015 and 2017, then he could be the winner at Pinehurst.

Jon Rahm

One of the more recent winners of the US Open, Spanish superstar Rahm is not playing his very best right now but remains a huge threat.

We don’t see as much of Rahm now he’s over on the LIV Tour but when it comes to major championships, you simply cannot count Rahm out.

Rahm won the US Open in 2021, won the Masters in 2023, and has finished in the top five in the other two majors.

A force to be reckoned with on his day, Jon Rahm will be one to watch if he starts well.

Justin Rose

A few months back, there’s no way we’d be suggesting Justin Rose was in contention to add a second US Open title to his record.

However, Rose’s performance at Valhalla – where he was in contention until the final nine holes – and the fact he’s done ok at the Charles Schwab this weekend, suggest he is a man back on top of his game.

Rose won the US back in 2013 and it would be quite the story if he came from nowhere to win another, some 11 years on.
