Winning one of golf’s majors is a huge feat in itself but there are a handful of players out there who have won multiple.
As we know, the likes of Tiger Woods have won the lot, while players such as Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and more need to just win one more to seal a career grand slam.
Going into the US Open at Pinehurst in a few weeks’ time, there’ll be a whole host of players looking to come out on top.

Among those players will be golfers who have won the US Open before, golfers who have never won a major, and golfers who have won another major, but never the US.
Of course, one of the most sought after wins in the whole of golf is winning The Masters and picking up that elusive green jacket.

A number of players going for the US Open have won that green jacket. But in the end, they’ve never quite added to it by landing the US Open a few months later.
Here, then, are THREE past Masters winners we think have a genuine chance of winning the US Open at Pinehurst.
Hideki Matsuyama
Despite the Japanese star being a model of consistency and picking up the 2021 Masters, Matsuyama has not added to his haul in the majors.
However, given his talent and the fact he always seems to be there or thereabouts, it seems only a matter of time before he does add to his tally.
Granted, the last few years haven’t exactly been brilliant for Matsuyama in the majors.
But he has picked up nine top ten finishes in the majors since he started playing all four every year in 2013.
His best finish at the US Open came a few years ago when he finished 4th and Matsuyama will be desperate to put a poor start to 2024 behind him.

Scottie Scheffler
The current green jacket holder and winner of two of the past three at Augusta, it is very much a matter of time before Scheffler wins another major.
Quite remarkably, he’s not won anything – major wise – outside of those two Masters wins.
However, he has finished second at both the PGA and the US Open in the last few years alone and given the form he’s in this season, he is one of the favourites for Pinehurst.
If Scheffler turns up and putts remotely well, then he’ll be in the mix to win. It’s as simple as that.

Phil Mickelson
Yes, Phil Mickelson is probably nowhere near the player he once was but he’s worth including on this list just for the sheer shock he hasn’t won a US Open.
Mickelson has won six majors in his career, including three green jackets. But amazingly, he has never got over the line at the US Open.
Even more remarkably, Mickelson has finished second or a tie for second six times at the US without ever taking the win.
Has he got one last amazing four days of golf in him? Or has time passed him by and it’s just never going to happen?
Either way, it’s quite the story and if Mickelson is even remotely near the leaders going into the weekend, excitement will build about whether he can do the business or not.
