Scottie Scheffler has had more than his fair share of Tiger Woods comparisons but Smylie Kauffman might have made the most interesting observation yet.

An emotional Scheffler walked away from Paris this weekend with Olympic Gold after a stirring comeback on the Sunday so him take the win.

For the world number one, a round of nine under was brilliant even by his standards, with Jon Rahm labelling the score a ‘joke’.

2024 has been quite the year for Scheffler and the gold simply rounds things off nicely.

And speaking about Scheffler’s ability to get the job done on a Sunday, Smylie Kauffman has said we are now seeing Tiger Woods levels of play in round four.

Scottie Scheffler compared to Tiger Woods for what he’s doing in round four of golf tournaments

Speaking on the latest episode of his The Smylie Show podcast, Kauffman suggested we are now seeing Tiger Woods levels of round four play from Scheffler.

“Well I think Tiger-esque, the way you frame it, I think the way I see it is he has an elite awareness now of what it’s going to take on a Sunday,” Kauffman said.

“He’s proven it multiple times now this year to win from behind. He’s won from being part of the mix and being able to separate. But he’s also won from out in front.

“This is what we watched Tiger do as kids we knew he had the lead it was game over. Scottie’s proven he can do that. All the greats have been great at understanding what a great score is to win.”

Who else has compared Tiger and Scottie?

You can search the archives for hours and find plenty of examples but Scheffler and Woods are often compared.

Indeed, Jason Day has said that Scheffler actually has a calmness about his game that separates him from Woods and Rory McIlroy, while Jon Rahm has previously spoken of Scheffler’s ball striking being on par with prime Tiger.

Furthermore, Paul McGinley has also labelled Scheffler’s mental toughness similar to Tiger.

Of course, Scheffler has a long way to go in terms of major wins.

But all these people cannot be wrong and right now, he’s as close as we’ve seen to Tiger Woods for some time.
