Scottie Scheffler heads into the US Open this week as the overwhelming favourite and Jon Rahm has had some high praise for him.

The world number one won at The Memorial last weekend to further cement his brilliant 2024 so far and make it five big wins for the season.

Scheffler is currently playing the golf of his life and even in the big tournaments he hasn’t won, there’s been outside factors like his arrest at Valhalla and his wife giving birth.

And speaking about Scheffler, former world number one and LIV Golf star Jon Rahm has lauded the American’s performance levels.

Jon Rahm explains why Scottie Scheffler is like Tiger Woods right now

Speaking to the media prior to withdrawing from the US Open this week, Rahm was asked about the run Scheffler is on right now.

And the Spaniard was full of praise for Scheffler, admitting it’s almost prime Tiger Woods what the American is doing.

“It’s quite incredible to see what he’s been able to accomplish,” Rahm commented.

“Every year or every other year there are great ball strikers that come up. But when you start getting compared to Tiger and things that Tiger has done, that’s when you know you are in a level that is quite special.

“To win five times on a season, and winning the ones he’s winning. You’re basically replicating a Tiger Woods season so that is very very impressive to see.”

Tiger comparisons are obvious and deserved

Rahm is correct in that we do see golfers come along every so often who have a period of dominance before falling away.

But with Scottie Scheffler, he just doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and his form at the moment rightfully gets him those Tiger comparisons.

Going into a major like the US Open, it’s rare to see someone who is such an overriding favourite with the bookmakers.

But this is where we are at with Scottie Scheffler and in all honesty, it’s easy to see why he is such short odds.

If Scheffler wins at Pinehurst this week, then his legacy is already secure for years to come. To win two from three majors and the tournaments he has alongside mark him out as one of the best to ever do it.
