Shane Lowry is never frightened of an opinion when it comes to professional golf and he’s now doubled down on his controversial take following his anger at The Masters.

Lowry was furious at Augusta with the media intrusion he felt was impacting players who were being asked for interviews immediately after suffering disappointment.

At the time, Lowry ranted about the issue, insisting it shouldn’t happen.

I’m going to go and — we talk about Collin Morikawa a few weeks ago. I think we need time. I think I need a half an hour now to sit there and gather my thoughts. I can’t be coming to talk to you guys straightaway. It shouldn’t be happening. I don’t agree with it,” Lowry said at the time.

Tennis players have to talk to the media, but they have a half an hour or hour before they have to do it. I feel like we should have the same thing. That’s how I feel. I’m probably going to say something stupid. I probably already have said something stupid because I’m p—– off right now. I’m just going to leave, okay?

Now, with the issue raised again at The Truist, Lowry has backed his own stance.

Shane Lowry doubles down on media stance at The Truist Championship

Shane Lowry was once again in the media spotlight after his round and was immediately asked questions about both his round and golf in general.

Typically, the subject got to his comments at The Masters and whether he’d had any pushback.

Lowry, though, simply doubled down and suggested that even the media agrees with him.

“Yeah, everybody, and even talking to some media, are in favour of players having a period to cool down after if they need it. I think that would be very welcome. Everybody, bar none, has been very supportive of what I said,” Lowry admitted.

“I think there’s certain times where — and I’m talking, you probably only need it — nine times out of ten, you’re going to be fine, but there’s that one time that’s not going to be great.

“I actually think the media and the general public would get a better perception of what the player actually thinks going into like the final round of a major or the weekend of a major if they need that cooling off period. That’s my suggestion, but who knows.”

Is Shane Lowry feeling the pressure on the PGA Tour?

Shane Lowry is a major winner and for that, he’ll always have his name in the record books.

However, with just a single win since that major win in 2019 and that win coming alongside Rory McIlroy, Lowry might well be feeling the pressure now.

Lowry has admitted that McIlroy impresses him with his mindset and that’s something the Irishman is going to have to work on himself.

Having put himself just a shot off the lead this week, Lowry now has the ideal chance to win and finally lift that burden.
