Sergio Garcia would have been used to preparing himself for The Open Championship at this stage of the season.

But the 2017 Masters winner, who is now on the LIV Golf tour, has missed out on qualifying for the iconic tournament.

The Spaniard was a regular at the PGA Tour major, with Garcia suggesting that he should have been given a special invite to The Open despite his lack of qualification.

The iconic Royal Troon Golf Club hosts the competition next week, with many top players currently fine-tuning their game in Scotland.

The Scottish Open is underway at The Renaissance Club, with the likes of Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele taking part.

Sergio Garcia names his favourite course in world golf

Garcia meanwhile is currently competing at LIV Golf Andalucia, with Real Club Valderrama hosting the event.

The Spaniard shot a two-under 69 in his opening round to tie for fourth, and has now revealed just how much the course means to him.

“I mean, it’s my favourite course in the world, so obviously that already helps when you feel comfortable what you’re doing,” Garcia told the official LIV Golf X account after his opening round.

“You obviously always have some doubts here and there, but on this course, I seem to be able to get around them better, even on tough conditions like today, so I’m obviously very happy about the way it went.”

Sergio Garcia aiming for success after The Open disappointment

Real Club Valderrama has hosted many major events over the years, primarily the 1997 Ryder Cup, along with the Volvo Masters and the Amex Championships.

Garcia will be eager to continue his strong performance on the course, particularly after his disappointment regarding The Open Championship.

The Spaniard carded four birdies in his opening round, on a course which Garcia says players are forced to use ‘every single club in the bag’.

He currently sits seventh in the individual LIV Golf standings this season, with his Fireballs side eighth in the team standings.

Fellow LIV Golf captains Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau have also waxed lyrical over Valderrama, with the latter having seen highlights of the 1997 Ryder Cup at the venue.
