The Open Championship is coming up in just over a weeks’ time and one LIV Golf star reckons he should be given dispensation to play.

Royal Troon is the host venue this time around and like every year, it’s often the major a lot of the top golfers want to win.

Of course, The Open is also unique in that it offers literally anyone the chance to qualify.

We saw the likes of popular YouTubers like Rick Shiels and Peter Finch try their hand at qualifying this year, while a host of pros from LIV and the PGA Tour also needed to earn a spot.

The likes of Sam Horsfield managed to achieve a place at Troon, as did English legend and major winner, Justin Rose.

However, while a number of pros did make the cut – with Abraham Ancer another to get a spot – one player who didn’t manage to make it was former Masters winner, Sergio Garcia.

And after missing out, Garcia felt aggrieved and seemed to agree with a suggestion over on X (Twitter) that he should be involved regardless.

Sergio Garcia appears to ask for a special invite to The Open at Royal Troon

The Spaniard tried and failed and was unhappy at the time as crowds of spectators resulted in slow play.

And responding to a suggestion on social media, Garcia has suggested that he should be given a bit of a special invite regardless.

Quite whether Garcia deserves to be in after missing his chance in qualifying is open to a whole other debate.

Indeed, making the move to LIV means he hasn’t got the world ranking points and ultimately, he didn’t produce on the day in qualifying either.

A quick look down at the comments as well seems to suggest a number of fans agree with him making his bed and essentially having to lie in it.

Still, The Open should be about the very biggest names being involved and Garcia is one of those.

Sadly, this is all just part of the bi-product of what LIV has brought to the table.
