Scottie Scheffler will have full focus on The Masters at this moment in time, with the American out to defend his title this week.

Scheffler has been labelled the main Masters contender, having won the major championship in 2022 and 2024.

Two-time major champion Scheffler felt relieved after his first Masters win, whereby he was handed the green jacket by 2021 winner Hideki Matsuyama.

Jon Rahm, now of LIV Golf, then won The Masters in 2023, but the trophy went back to Scheffler a year later.

He enters the major this week without a win on the PGA Tour in 2025, but still as the highest-ranked player in the field.

Scottie Scheffler compared to a ‘handyman’ before The Masters

And given his experience and skill set for Augusta National, Scheffler has been backed by The Athletic golf writer Gabby Herzig to come out on top once more.

“I am going Scottie,” she said on Fore Please! Now Driving. “I know it can be a cop out answer. But I have personally been doing some extensive reporting on Scottie Scheffler and the way that his game fits at Augusta National.

“I had great conversations with Ted Scott, his caddie, and Randy Smith, his coach since he was seven years old.

“Learning about how they perceive Scottie at Augusta was really cool. Teddy and Randy actually both used the exact same metaphor to describe Scottie Scheffler at Augusta.

“They compared him to a handyman with a full tool kit, which I thought was super interesting. These were completely separate conversations which were unprompted.

“They used the same words to describe Scottie, so he is literally prepared for everything. He is never out of position because he has all the shots.

“Augusta National demands so much from you that you can’t not have a shot, it will expose it and you will find yourself in a weak spot somewhere.

“Scottie is one of those players who can be so creative. He grew up being coached by Randy, who would drop a ball behind a tree and say hit it around it. He trained him to have that eye to shape shots and just come up with something when you need to.

“I think that is one of the reasons why we see Scottie succeeding here so much and I think in five Masters appearances now he has never placed outside the top 20. How can you bet against that?”

He has only made five appearances at the tournament, but has managed to finish within the top 20 every time, as Herzig mentioned.

Another strong showing this time around is very much likely, even with a somewhat disrupted season so far.

Scheffler was forced to delay his 2025 PGA Tour campaign after undergoing hand surgery, but he has managed to make the cut in all six starts, with T25 being his worst result.
