Scottie Scheffler is well renowned for being one of the best ball strikers in the game, if not the best.
Scheffler is deadly with his irons, and his distance control is something that has only been matched in recent history by Tiger Woods in his prime.
The 28-year-old Texan got off the mark in 2025 with a win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday.
Scheffler will not be playing in the Truist Championship this week, in order to go into The PGA Championship fresh.
And the two-time major winner’s rivals must be fearing what he might bring to the party at Quail Hollow next week.

After Rory McIlroy’s win at The Masters, Scheffler was determined to practice even harder.
The man from Dallas looked like a different animal at TPC Craig Ranch last week, and now he will be eyeing some of the biggest prizes throughout the remainder of the season.
Scottie Scheffler tells golf fans secret to spot when he’s hitting the ball badly
Whilst Scheffler is a supreme ball-striker, he is not always on top of his game.
That’s what makes the game so alluring – it’s impossible to be at your best at all times, although Scheffler comes pretty close to doing that!
However, there are days when the 28-year-old has to try to get the very best out of his swing.
Scheffler has now lifted the lid on something that viewers should look out for when they’re watching him on TV.

He said, “I tried to draw that one. So it’s funny, like when I’m swinging good, when I hit a draw, most people won’t know, but what happened there, I could feel the club get behind me on the way down, so I tried to save it at the last second. The draw swing is more a product of me just not swinging the way that I need to.“
Scottie Scheffler’s exceptional ball striking stats
There is nobody better in the game right now than Scheffler when it comes to gaining strokes on the field with their irons.
His numbers from the last four years on the PGA Tour highlight why he has been so dominant since the start of the 2022 season.
| PGA Tour season | Strokes gained approach to green | Proximity to the hole | Greens in regulation |
| 2025 | 1st | 1st | 4th |
| 2024 | 1st | 2nd | 3rd |
| 2023 | 1st | 12th | 1st |
| 2022 | 4th | 57th | 1st |
Scheffler sent out a real statement of intent with his win at CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday.
The margin of his victory undoubtedly would have made the likes of McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau stand up and take notice.
When Scheffler is on song, he’s still the best player in the world. He might not hit as many world-class, ‘highlight reel’ shots as McIlroy, but he’s certainly more consistent on the whole than the Masters champion.
