Scottie Scheffler certainly hasn’t been at his imperious best during the first two days of the US Open at Oakmont.

Scheffler entered the US Open as the red-hot favourite to win the tournament, but he hasn’t had things all his own way so far at Oakmont.

The world number one has been in sensational form on the PGA Tour this season, but he definitely had some issues on Thursday afternoon.

Before the tournament began, Scheffler suggested that having a week off before the US Open set him up really well for the week at Oakmont.

And Scheffler was being tipped to win the US Open by as many as four or five shots by the likes of Andy North.

If he is to do just that, he will most likely need to post two rounds of 65 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The 28-year-old looked incredibly frustrated after his second round 71 at Oakmont on Friday and seemingly took his frustrations out on his coach Randy Smith.

Scheffler headed straight to the range after his second round at Oakmont.

The world number one began hitting balls, and Smith accompanied him almost immediately, with his caddie Ted Scott watching on.

That’s when things got rather strange, Scheffler began gesticulating with his hands in the direction of his coach.

Some fans reacted on X to Scheffler’s display of anger on the range:

Scheffler is very well-known for being extremely stoic out on the golf course.

His actions on the range on Friday evening were absolutely fine. Elite athletes need to show passion sometimes in order to get the fire back in their bellies.

It was just the fact that it was so unlike Scheffler.

We don’t see him lose his cool – it just doesn’t happen…until today that is!

Now it remains to be seen whether that fiery range session will kickstart his 2025 US Open.

Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 US Open stats

Scheffler has been nowhere near his best this week in Pennsylvania.

The three-time major champion’s ball-striking has been so far below his usual standards.

His numbers highlight just how far off the pace he has been this week.

The thing with Scheffler is that nobody would be surprised if he fired a third round in the mid-60s on Saturday to fire himself back into contention at the US Open.

He is the world number one for a reason, and he was clearly desperate to fix things on the range after his round at Oakmont on Friday.
