Scottie Scheffler will be absolutely key for Team USA as we hurtle towards another Ryder Cup year in golf.

Scheffler was part of the losing effort for the US in Rome in 2023 but did help the team to a win in 2021.

Heading back home to America, the US team will feel confident and will want Bethpage in New York to be a hotbed of American golf fans who make it a hard few days for the Europeans.

Of course, heated crowds and on course spats have dominated stories recently. Indeed, Scheffler himself has had to play down a run-in with Tom Kim at the Presidents Cup.

However, while Scheffler is very much in the corner of having a home advantage put to good use, the world number one has offered up a humble take on proceedings as well.

Scottie Scheffler tells US golf fans to keep it ‘respectful’ at the 2025 Ryder Cup

Speaking on the GOLF’s Subpar podcast, Scheffler was asked about the upcoming Ryder Cup in New York and the home crowd impact.

And Scheffler admitted that he hoped the crowd didn’t go too far after what happened both in Rome in 2023 and at the Presidents Cup a few weeks back.

“It’s erm…there’s a reason it’s hard to win on foreign turf in the Ryder Cup. It’s challenging. But I’m excited to get back on home turf and obviously get another shot at those guys,” Scheffler said.

“Obviously it didn’t end the way we hoped it would end. The Europeans played great and it’s one of those weeks where you just take it and shake hands.

“It’s great being in there competing. Same thing as the Presidents Cup, guys celebrate, go crazy, say stuff but at the end of the match you take your hat off and shake hands.

“I’m looking forward to Bethpage and hopefully the fans will be respectful to the guys and we’ll see how it goes and hopefully I don’t have to step in and it will be a good environment and they don’t go over the line.”

Bethpage could be the hottest crowd yet

We all love the Ryder Cup for the energy that the crowds bring but there’s a chance in 2025 that things might well push the boundaries.

New York sports fans are known for their passion and with how things went in Rome and in the recent Presidents Cup, there’s a feeling brewing that the crowds could continue to heat up.

For Team Europe, it will all be about quietening down those home crowds and in fairness to Luke Donald’s side, they won’t be intimidated.

For Team USA, it’s all about keeping things as hostile as possible without overstepping the mark and ultimately, using that to their advantage to win.

Quite whether those crowds turn up given the huge prices put up, remains to be seen.
