Scottie Scheffler came up short at the Charles Schwab Challenge this week and he’s been speaking to the media following his final round.
Scheffler was taking part in the tournament on the newly renovated Colonial course and despite not playing anywhere near his best, still managed to finish second behind winner Davis Riley.
The world number one actually carded an over-par final round in tricky conditions but fought hard enough to still snatch a runner’s up spot.
Of course, the new-look Colonial course has had plenty of focus this week.
And speaking about the conditions, Scheffler issued his verdict on proceedings, with a particular focus on the greens and the ground in general.

Scottie Scheffler gives his honest verdict on the Colonial course
Speaking in his flash interview after finishing up at the new-look Colonial course, Scheffler gave his honest verdict on how things had played out.
“The golf course was playing really, really firm today. The fairways were not wide and how windy it was. I felt Davis’s ball was no more than 10 yards right of mine and his ball was in the rough. And I hit mine right down my line and my ball was also in the rough. So it’s challenging,” Scheffler said.
“We will see how it plays the next couple of years as the golf course settles in. Obviously when it’s new the grass is crazy firm, so we will see if they are able to keep it this firm for years to come.
“Overall I think the golf course just needs a bit more time to settle in before we can judge how the renovations really are but I was pleased they didn’t remove too many of the trees and eliminate some of the character from the golf course, I think a lot of the character of the course is still in tact so we will see in the next couple of years as the green settle in.
“They were a bit ‘moundy’ this week, that’s pretty normal for new greens before they settle in the ball tends to do weird things. But overall, for the first year, I thought it was a really good test.”
Scheffler shows he’s still the man to beat
Yes, Davis Riley played exceptionally well to win the tournament but overall, this just showed how good Scottie Scheffler is.
He was absolutely nowhere near his best over the four days but yet still had enough in the locker to be right in the mix and beat everyone else but Riley.
With the US Open just a few weeks away, Scheffler will be pleased with the way he’s bounced back from last week’s drama at Valhalla.
Was it a win for Scheffler? No. But was it another marker as to how good he is? Yes, certainly.
