Scottie Scheffler has been forced to take somewhat of a back seat on the PGA Tour in 2025 so far, with Rory McIlroy in the driving seat.
Scheffler and McIlroy have been backed for Masters contention, with the duo occupying spots one and two in the world rankings respectively.
Brandel Chamblee thinks a ‘mental hurdle’ is holding McIlroy back concerning another major win, with his most recent arriving in 2014.
Scheffler meanwhile won the Masters in 2024, with the American securing his second win at Augusta National and second major championship win overall.
But McIlroy is well ahead with four, although the Northern Irishman has failed to emerge victorious at the Masters, which returns next month.

Scottie Scheffler grateful Rory McIlroy is trying to emulate him
Defending champion Scheffler has now returned to the venue for a press conference, in which he was asked how much of a compliment it was to hear that McIlroy essentially reset his game given the standard that the American has set in recent times.
Also asked if he has done something similar with another player, Scheffler replied: “You know, I think that’s a nice thing for Rory to say.
“I think the good players out on tour, I think we all can learn a lot from each other. And so there has not been one person that I’ve modelled certain things off of.
“But when you get a chance to be around the type of player that I get to be around a lot of the time, looking at playing with guys like Rory, Xander Schauffele, I play a bunch of golf with Jordan Spieth here at home, the amount of things that I can learn by watching and hearing how they think their shots.

“I’ve been very blessed over the course of my lifetime to be around a lot of great players and learn from them and that’s something that I feel like a lot of the best players on tour are doing often.
“Like I was just trading some texts with Justin Thomas the other day about the way we think through things on the golf course, and he gave me some good advice, and I was able to reciprocate a couple things back to him.”
Scottie Scheffler learned by watching other PGA Tour players
While he would understandably be reluctant to say it out loud, Scheffler may just have mixed feelings about McIlroy trying to replicate his efforts.
The latter has managed to do exactly that in terms of titles in 2025, with McIlroy winning twice ahead of the Masters, exactly like Scheffler did in 2024.
McIlroy has now won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Players Championship, with Scheffler having won the latter and the Arnold Palmer Invitational last time out.
The world number one is, however, also attempting to learn from others, having finished his response by saying: “I think we all can learn a lot from each other, and I think you just do that just by watching and then sometimes you get the opportunity to ask questions if you’re close enough to the guy. But a lot of the stuff I learned is just from watching players.”
