We’re all running out of superlatives for Scottie Scheffler now, aren’t we?
After his tremendous victory at the PGA Championship, it’s very much business as usual for Scheffler this week at the Charles Schwab Challenge in his home state of Texas.
The highly esteemed Colonial Country Club is the venue – a golf course the 28-year-old has played hundreds of times before.
There’s a reason why the three-time major champion is the red-hot favourite this week. He’s the number one golfer in the world and the field is relatively weak by PGA Tour standards.
When he was just a young child back in Dallas, Scheffler told Lee Trevino that he would become a PGA Tour player.

He’s done that, and more. The Dallas native wasn’t anywhere near his best at Quail Hollow.
However, on the final day Scheffler gutted it out and produced one of his best rounds of all time. That’s what makes him so dominant – even his ‘B’ game is good enough to win comfortably.
Now he will be looking to make it three PGA Tour wins in a row at Colonial Country Club this week.
Scottie Scheffler confirms why he’s playing at the Charles Schwab Challenge
The grind never stops for Scheffler.
He is on a mission to become the greatest golfer of all time. And in order to do that, he needs to win at least another 50 regular PGA Tour events and at least 12 more major championships.
Those two things will be incredibly difficult to get done, but Scheffler is more than capable of achieving them.
He’s looking to make it win number 16 this week in Fort Worth, and explained why he decided to play in the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Scheffler said, “Coming off a major win, obviously there’s a lot of emotion and stuff that comes with winning that golf tournament, but at the end of the day I didn’t just show up here to Fort Worth to just walk around and celebrate last week.

“I’m here for a reason, and that’s not to just play a couple of ceremonious rounds and then ride off in the sunset. I’m here for a reason. That’s to compete.“
That kind of mindset is quite obviously what makes Scheffler so great – he just never takes his foot off the pedal.
Scheffler shares how his preparation has been different to usual
The three-time major winner was completely at ease during his press conference at Colonial Country Club on Wednesday, and why wouldn’t he have been?
However, his prep work for this week has clearly been slightly different than it usually would have been.
Scheffler explained, “My prep work for this tournament will obviously be a bit different than it normally is for an event. I didn’t really do much yesterday or the day before. Yesterday I went to the gym and kind of got back doing that stuff a little bit, but this is my first time on the course.
“Today I’m just playing nine holes and getting out of here. I’m not doing my normal practice routine just because I need to focus more on rest than I do getting prepared for the course. Fortunately this is a golf course that I’ve been around numerous times. Today I’ve got a good feel for the speed of the greens, hit a couple of bunker shots, hit some chips out of the rough.
“Outside of that I need to give my brain and body a rest to prepare for another event.“
The scary thing for Scheffler’s rivals is that even when he has not prepared properly for a golf tournament, he still has the ability to win comfortably.
If he trotted around Colonial and won by four or five shots this week, nobody would even bat an eyelid.
Scheffler has already made 2025 a very good year, but he will be determined to make it a great one by adding a few more PGA Tour wins and another major championship to his haul.
