Scottie Scheffler was nowhere near his best on day two of the Tour Championship, as he carded a mistake-strewn round of 69 at East Lake.
Scheffler has been in sensational form on the PGA Tour this season, with five wins to his name already, including two major championships, so his second round at the Tour Championship came as a huge surprise.
His golf on Friday was so un-Scheffler like, with his four birdies being offset by three really uncharacteristic bogeys.
Scheffler said he is not concerned after his second round at the Tour Championship, and instead insisted that he wasn’t actually that far off on Friday.
On Thursday, Scheffler achieved a career first on the PGA Tour by holing three putts outside of 25 feet during his opening round 63 at East Lake.
It was also his 60th bogey-free round since 2021 – the most on the PGA Tour over the past four years by quite some distance.
However, during his second round on Friday, he was a long way off the levels he showed on day one in Atlanta.

Despite Scheffler’s sloppy performance on day two at East Lake, he is still closing in on a PGA Tour record.
The world number one has been unbeatable at times this season, and his tally of five wins speaks for itself.
However, perhaps the most impressive thing about Scheffler is his relentless consistency. He has now recorded 13 top eight finishes on the PGA Tour, but he’s still a long way short of Byron Nelson’s record.
There is one record that Scheffler is very close to matching.
After his round of 69 at East Lake, the 29-year-old has now shot sub-70 rounds 19 times in a row – just two short of Patrick Cantlay‘s record of 21.
What a great record that will be for Scheffler to break, and it would be a sign of just how consistent he is.
For context, Rory McIlroy has shot 70 or worse five times in his last 16 rounds.

Golf fans have marvelled at Scheffler’s outstanding consistency over the past few years.
However, his second round at the Tour Championship was a real anomaly.
For only the seventh time in his last 655 rounds, Scheffler lost strokes in all four of the main strokes gained categories – off the tee, approach, around the green and putting.
Perhaps it’s a sign of just how good he is that he still managed to shoot in the 60s, despite losing strokes on the field in all four of those categories.
And nobody would be surprised if Scheffler comes out and shoots in the mid-low 60s at the Tour Championship on Saturday.
