Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Cantlay were among the American players who fell to defeat at the Ryder Cup, which Europe won 15-13.
Scheffler produced a poor Ryder Cup display at Bethpage Black, winning just one point for his team from five matches played.
Cantlay didn’t fare much better from his five matches, claiming 1.5 points for the US Ryder Cup team as they fell to a nightmare defeat on home soil.
Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young led the way for the home side with three points each, followed by the two of Justin Thomas and J.J. Spaun.
Captain Keegan Bradley has taken the brunt of the blame following the loss, while Luke Donald has been heavily praised for his efforts in New York.

Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Cantlay release statements after USA’s Ryder Cup loss
Two members of the losing side have now broken their silence following their disappointment, including world number one Scheffler.
He posted on Instagram: “Representing Team USA at the Ryder Cup was a great honor. There’s nothing like the pride of competing alongside such incredible teammates.
“Thank you for everyone that came out to cheer us on this past week – it’s something I’ll never forget. A hard-fought week and a major congratulations to Team Europe.”
And his American teammate Cantlay posted: “Playing in the Ryder Cup and representing the US is the greatest honor in our game.
“Really tough to come up short for our home fans but proud of this team and the unforgettable memories with them.
“Special thank you to our captain Keegan Bradley for everything he put into this and did for our team.”
Shane Lowry says where Ryder Cup win at Bethpage Black ranks among his career achievements
There was clear disappointment from Scheffler and Cantlay, who despite huge home support were often helpless against their inspired opponents.
In stark contrast, European star Shane Lowry has shared a hugely upbeat message after lifting the trophy at Bethpage.
Lowry’s putt retained the Ryder Cup for Donald’s men, with the Irishman now posting on Instagram: “I’ve been lucky enough to achieve some amazing things in this game but last week tops them all.
“The Ryder Cup means a lot to me and to have the opportunity to hole that putt to retain the cup on Sunday was a privilege.
“I love the lads on this team and love being a part of it. Luke Donald is the best captain and guy there is. I’m so happy for him and thankful he trusted me again to help this team to victory.
“As I was walking up 18 on Sunday I couldn’t help but think of all the European and Irish legends that have gone before me in this great tournament.
“From Eamonn Darcy back in 1987, Christy Jnr in 89, Philip Walton at Oak Hill in 95 to Paul in 2002 and Gmac at Celtic Manor in 2010. There is just something with the Irish and the Ryder Cup.”
Fittingly Ireland’s storied history with the Ryder Cup will now continue into the next edition, with Adare Manor hosting the event in 2027.
Lowry will be desperate to represent Europe and indeed lift the trophy once more on home soil, while the USA will be equally desperate to get back to winning ways after two successive defeats.
