Scottie Scheffler huffed and puffed his way to another over par round at the US Open as he once again faltered.
The world number one has been nowhere near his usual level over the week at Pinehurst and is a mile behind the leaders heading into day four.
Scheffler had come into the tournament off the back of yet another win and was expected to challenge.

However, a nightmare opening two rounds saw him only just sneak into the weekend at five over par and he dropped another shot in round three as his struggles continued.
Of course, Scheffler is an honest golfer and rarely makes excuses for things.

Speaking to the press and addressing yet another round of over par golf, Scheffler admitted that he’s really struggled on the greens.
“Today was a day where I thought I played a lot better than my score,” Scheffler said.
“I’m having a lot of trouble reading these greens. I had a lot of putts today where I felt like I hit it really good. I looked up and they were not going the way I thought they were going to go.”
Remarkably, Scheffler is still inside the top 50 for the tournament despite playing one of the worst weeks of his life on the big stage.

The world number one knows what needs to be done and he hinted at making some changes to his preparation as well.
Of course, for the game in general, it’s been good to see some others come into the light as Scheffler struggles.
The likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, and Patrick Cantlay are all in the mix, while Hideki Matsuyama has crept up the leaderboard as well.
Round four, then, should be a thriller, even if it’s not going to feature Scheffler too much.
