While the golfing world still recovers from the fallout of Team Europe’s epic Ryder Cup win, it’s back to the grind for a lot of players on the PGA Tour, starting with the Sanderson Farms Championship this week.

With the PGA Tour for 2025 over and the Ryder Cup now out of the way, you’d be forgiven for thinking there wasn’t much golf left to play this year.

However, there are a number of relatively big names taking part in this week’s Sanderson Farms Championship, including, rather surprisingly, Ryder Cup winner Rasmus Hojgaard.

Can Kevin Yu defend his crown at the affectionately-named ‘Chicken Championship’? Or will Michael Thorbjornsen be less ‘sloppy’ this year and make a charge for the trophy?

Here’s all you should know about the upcoming event.

When is the Sanderson Farms Championship?

The PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Fall continues this week with the Sanderson Farms Championship. The event begins on Thursday, October 2nd and will run through to Sunday, October 5th.

This runs concurrently with the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship over in Scotland, where a number of PGA Tour pros are playing this week.

Where does the Sanderson Farms Championship take place?

The Sanderson Farms Championship is hosted at The Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi. The event moved there in 2014 having previously been held at Hattiesburg Country Club until 1994, and then Annandale Golf Club in Madison.

Sanderson Farms Championship playing field

While big names like Scottie Scheffler will take some time off, probably until the New Year, plenty of other players are still getting out on the greens to boost their reputation and ranking ahead of the 2026 season.

A good performance at the Sanderson Farms Championship can dramatically help players needing to secure their playing rights for the new season, and we’ll see PGA mainstays like Max Homa, Min Woo Lee, and Akshay Bhatia among the field this weekend.

We’ll also see Ryder Cup winner Rasmus Hojgaard competing, as well as his brother, Nicolai, as the Danish pair look to establish themselves on US soil.

Reigning champion Kevin Yu is back, while the likes of Joel Dahmen, Emiliano Grillo, Davis Thompson, Mackenzie Hughes, and Matt Wallace will also be players to watch this week.

Prize money for Sanderson Farms Championship

The total prize fund for the Sanderson Farms Championship is $6 million, with $1.08 million of that purse going to the overall winner.

Earnings for Sanderson Farms Championship:

This matches the purse for the recent Procore Championship 2025. So, not only is this the final chance to boost those FedEx points, it’s also a nice opportunity for players to top up their prize money, too.
