Scottie Scheffler won his first tournament of the 2025 season at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson this past weekend.

The world number one had seven Tour victories last year, plus the Olympics, and many thought he would continue in the same vein.

A hand injury at the start of the year disrupted his preparations for the new campaign and he had yet to win until the Byron Nelson.

Now, with that monkey off his back, golf expert Ryan Lavner has predicted how many more events Scheffler will add to his resume in 2025.

How many PGA Tour events Scottie Scheffler will win in 2025 predicted

Scheffler wasn’t in poor form by any means, with top-10 finishes at The Masters and the RBC Heritage, but he was clearly a level below last year’s form.

Well, that all changed at the CJ Cup as he blew the field away with an incredible 31-under-par score at TPC Craig Ranch.

Lavner believes that, while expectations on Scheffler were too high to start the season, he will now go on to win two more PGA Tour events.

“Was it unrealistic to think Scottie Scheffler was going to win… I don’t know, what was the over/under? 4.5 times in 2025,” Lavner explained. “Yeah, that was probably unrealistic, given the injury, the layoff, and the time off that he had.

“I still think it’s possible, Rex, that he can come away, I think probably with three victories. I think that would be a stand-out season for Scottie Scheffler.

“If you’re winning three-plus times on the PGA Tour this year, with the depth and the Signature Event model, I still think that’s a great season for Scottie Scheffler. And that still seems, basically, in the realm of possibility.”

Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy should clash at PGA Championship

Scheffler cemented his place as the best player in the world last season, and only Xander Schauffele – with two major victories – provided any sort of competition.

However, Rory McIlroy has returned to his very best in 2025, winning the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Players Championship and The Masters – completing the career Grand Slam.

While there’s still a gulf between them in the Official World Golf Ranking, the gap has narrowed significantly in recent months.

Plus, regardless of what the rankings say, McIlroy can definitely overtake Scheffler as the perceived world leader with a win at the PGA Championship.

It didn’t quite pan out at The Masters, but wouldn’t it be amazing for the sport if it comes down to these two on Sunday at Quail Hollow?
