Rory McIlroy’s continued wait to win again went on today as he came up agonisingly short at the Irish Open.
McIlroy was leading all the way before a mini meltdown on the back nine allowed Rasmus Hojgaard to capitalise and win out in the end.
For McIlroy, it was akin to the situation he found himself in at the US Open earlier in the year.
As we know, the Northern Irishman came up short of Bryson DeChambeau that weekend despite leading with just a few holes to play.
And after seeing similar happen at the Irish Open this weekend, McIlroy was clearly finding it hard to deal with in the aftermath.
Still, McIlroy tried to keep positive as he shared his immediate thoughts post round.

Rory McIlroy shares Irish Open verdict after giving away another win
Speaking to the media after his final round saw him come up just short behind Hojgaard, McIlroy shared how he was feeling.
“Felt like I was in control of the tournament for most of the day. Felt like I was playing really solid, doing what I needed to do, making a lot of pars, making the odd birdie,” McIlroy said.
“Then obviously the two bogeys on 15 and 17 opened the door for someone to have a good finish like what Rasmus did there on the last few holes.
“Yeah, unfortunately I played well this week, missing the green right on 15 was the place that you can’t go. And just misjudged the speed with the first putt on 17.
“Overall, yeah, obviously really disappointed that I didn’t win but I’ll try to take the positives and move on next week to Wentworth.”
McIlroy will now be desperate to put this tournament behind him and while McIlroy was praised by Smylie Kaufman for even putting himself in with a shout of winning, he’ll know he has dropped the ball here.
Wentworth is a great chance for him to put it right and like many Europeans, he’ll be desperate to win.
