Rory McIlroy has become the latest top golfer to sing the praises of world number one, Scottie Scheffler.
Scheffler is going into this week’s FedEx St Jude Championship as one of the favourites to win after once again hitting headlines at the Olympics.
The world number one carded a stunning back nine 29 at Le Golf National to write his name in the history books and bring home the gold medal.
The gold capped a superb year for Scheffler which has seen him win The Masters and five other big PGA Tour events over the season.
And speaking about just how good Scheffler has been, Rory McIlroy has admitted that he’s so impressed by everything the American does.

Rory McIlroy shares why he’s so impressed by Scottie Scheffler
Speaking to the press ahead of teeing off for round one of the St Jude, McIlroy was asked about where Scheffler’s 29 in Paris ranks and in turn, went on to praise the world number one.
“It’s up there! I thought I was on course for a 29 as well at one point but for him to just keep it going,” McIlroy said.
“He’s amazing, even when you think he’s not in the tournament or on the fringes of contention he always seems to find a way to hit the shots or hole the putts.
“I have described Scottie as relentless and this is just another example of that. He has had an incredible couple of years. Once he won that first one it’s like the floodgates have opened and he has found the next gear and the next level and as a golf fan it’s really cool to see.”

While he’s only got the single major, it’s hard to argue that Scottie Scheffler hasn’t had one of the best ever years on the tour.
Of course, Xander Schauffele winning two majors brings the conversation to the table and Viktor Hovland has admitted that he’d take Schauffele’s two major wins over everything else.
However, Scheffler has mopped up in all the signature evens, added a second green jacket, and won a gold medal. In a nutshell, it just doesn’t get much better than that really.
Add to that the fact Scheffler is approaching $100m in career earnings thanks to his successes, and it’s safe to say he’s had quite the 2024!
