Robert MacIntyre could contend at The Open Championship this week after his superb display at the US Open.
The Open Championship follows the US Open in the major championship schedule, with MacIntyre in the field at Royal Portrush this week.
The Scot enters the tournament in intriguing form, having just finished T65 at the Scottish Open, an event he won in 2024.
MacIntyre also won the Canadian Open in 2024, and is now searching for his third PGA Tour win this week.
But MacIntyre apologised to fans after his latest showing, having failed miserably in his attempts to defend his Scottish Open title.

US Open runner-up Robert MacIntyre rates his game ahead of The Open Championship
His disappointing display arrived after a T17 finish at the Travelers Championship, which came just after he finished second at the US Open at Oakmont.
Discussing that near miss to J.J. Spaun this time last month, MacIntyre told Sky Sports Golf: “I always knew I had the game, I just didn’t know if I could really compete at that level fully.
“Or I didn’t know if I could win a major championship. But that at Oakmont confirms that I can. And if a few things had fallen my side, I was going to walk away there as a US Open champion.
“It didn’t. And J.J. did unbelievably well and fair play to him. But yeah, I just believe that if I play my best stuff, I’ve got a chance.”
Robert MacIntyre looks back on ‘unbelievable’ US Open at Oakmont
MacIntyre will, of course, be devastated after that near miss, but he can hold his head very high at the same time.
It was a fantastic performance, with Spaun ultimately lifting the title thanks to a stunning putt at the very last.
And even though MacIntyre endured a frustrating week on home soil at The Renaissance Club, his US Open performance should give him plenty of confidence for The Open.
Looking back on the major, he said: “I was disappointed. I was gutted that it wasn’t my chance or my time.
“But I said at the start of the week that level par I thought would win the golf tournament, and I almost did that.
“I played unbelievable golf for the majority of the week. J.J. was just better than me, better than everyone else.”
MacIntyre now has a very intriguing start at The Open ahead of him, having been paired with Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Rose for rounds one and two.
And he may be quietly confident about outshining that duo, not only because of his US Open venture, but because of the Scot’s familiarity with links golf.
