Robert MacIntyre missed out on the BMW Championship title to Scottie Scheffler after a terrible final round at Caves Valley.
MacIntyre had a four-shot lead over the world number one with 18 holes to play, so the tournament was effectively his to lose.
Unfortunately, the Scotsman’s three-over-par 73 on Sunday meant that he threw it away, as Scheffler took full advantage of his mistakes.
MacIntyre did not hold back in a brutal assessment of his performance on Sunday at the BMW Championship.

Robert MacIntyre reflects on nightmare final round at BMW Championship
MacIntyre had played so well in the first three rounds at the BMW Championship that many assumed Scheffler would need to produce something special to beat him.
Instead, Scheffler cruised to a two-shot victory with a three-under-par 67 because his opponent was struggling so much with his game.
“Golf ball was going absolutely miles for me,” MacIntyre explained. “I hit a lot of lovely shots later on once I got control of my game.
“Par threes, iron shot into 13 or 14, and then the iron shot in 17, I thought was perfect, was too long. So I didn’t feel like I controlled the distance well. Just a poor day.”
MacIntyre then described his performance as “absolutely abysmal” and admitted that he doesn’t know what lessons he can take from the defeat.
“I don’t know. Right now it’s absolutely disastrous,” he added. “I’m not going to be positive here. It was abysmal, that is the best word for it. I don’t know what else to say, just absolutely abysmal.
MacIntyre continued: “I mean, right now, not a clue [how to improve]. Right now, I want to go and smash up my golf clubs, to be honest with you.”

Robert MacIntyre’s first two holes cost him BMW Championship title
MacIntyre’s chances of winning diminished after just two holes, as he made back-to-back bogeys and Scheffler made a par and a birdie.
His four-shot lead had reduced to one in less than half an hour, which gave him an uphill battle for the rest of the round.
“No, I got off to an absolutely horrific start,” MacIntyre said. “I just expected jumpers on 1 and 2. 1, it’s come out dead, and then it’s got a massive mud ball just short of the green. Hard to control the chip.
“But I just felt great going out today. I wasn’t even expecting to be over par, to be honest. I was really expecting to go out there, foot down, and perform the way I have the last couple of days.
“My golf ball was going miles today. I don’t know why. I need to work that out. But when I got the game back in somewhat of a shape, I went over the back of the par-3s. I feel I’ve hit good shots, and I’ve gone miles.”
MacIntyre will have to regroup ahead of the Tour Championship at East Lake next week, where it would not be a surprise to see him in contention again.
