Jordan Spieth is making his fourth PGA Tour start of 2025 at this weekend’s Cognizant Classic in Florida.
After undergoing wrist surgery last year, Spieth is recovering and is still not pain-free. The three-time major winner explained how inflammation was still impacting him at the Genesis Invitational, where he missed the cut.
However, considering Spieth couldn’t hold a club immediately after surgery, the fact he’s back out on the PGA Tour competing is a massive bonus.
What’s more, Spieth’s inclusion in the Cognizant Classic field perhaps indicates that he believes his wrist condition is improving.
PGA National will provide a stern examination of Spieth’s game this weekend, with accurate driving set to be rewarded on a course littered with water hazards. Spieth currently ranks 148th for driving accuracy on Tour (54%).
Rickie Fowler reacts to Jordan Spieth’s Cognizant Classic decision

The event at PGA National is a local one for most Tour stars, several of whom reside in Jupiter and the surrounding areas.
Of those, Rickie Fowler, a six-time PGA Tour winner, discussed Spieth’s decision to play during his pre-tournament press conference.
Fowler initially revealed that Spieth declined the offer to stay at his house this week.
“Yeah, we had a nice tent ready for him. (Laughter.) He would have been all right out back,” Fowler said.
“Yeah, between myself and JT, who I know offered up, I think he decided to stay a bit closer. He was here on his own and obviously wasn’t necessarily planning to play this week, so I know they had plans at home, so the kids and wife are back there.
“But no, it’s great to have him here. I feel like with how he plays and stuff, I feel like this golf course—obviously, he’s a great player. He can play well anywhere. But I think he’ll find it a fun challenge. I know he’s been here a while back, but it’s definitely good to have him here. Hopefully, we’ll be able to get him over to the house a few times. Our oldest is three days younger than his oldest, Sammy, and they’re very close, so she’d be excited to see Jordan.”
Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth’s 2025 PGA Tour records
Spieth and Fowler have both endured up-and-down starts to 2025.
Fowler kicked off his season at the American Express and finished in a tie for 15th at PGA West. The 36-year-old’s lowest round of the season came on day two when he shot 62.
Fowler then finished T53 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am before withdrawing from the WM Phoenix Open after shooting 74 on day one. At the Genesis Invitational, Fowler ended the week in a tie for 39th.
As for Spieth, the highlight of his season thus far came at the WM Phoenix Open, where he ended the week in fourth. Spieth was unfortunate as Thomas Detry produced some stunning weekend golf to land his maiden PGA Tour title.
